About

Hello, my name is Ann Leaness and I am currently a High School English Teacher in Philadelphia. I also work as an adjunct for Neumann University. My journey as a teacher began twenty-one years ago this September when I walked into St Bartholomew and was greeted by a sea of faces. Since that day, I have never looked backed. I spent eight years at the elementary level and then moved on to the high school level. I worked as an assistant principal for four years and because I was blessed with another child, my fifth boy (gasp) I decided to go back to the classroom. I love being back in the classroom with my students. Teaching is truly the best job there is, well at least for me.  As a life-long learner myself, it is my hope to nurture a love for learning in my students.

In addition to my classroom teaching, I am a member of the edcamp foundation board. Our team began edcamp in Philadelphia in May of 2010. Since then, edcamps have been happening all over the US, Canada and are now moving around the globe. My participation in edcamp has been a truly rewarding and exciting experience. Find an edcamp near you and go, you will not be disappointed.

I recently traveled to NY city to be a member of a panel for teachers teaching teachers at the #140EDU conference. Meenoo Rami, Karen Blumberg, Shell Terrell and myself discussed how twitter brings teachers together and offers learning opportunities such as #engchat, TEDxNYED, and edcamp. This spring I will be presenting two sessions at ASCD with several other educators, but more about that later.

Please take a look around and share your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree. I look forward to learning with and from you.

  1. I really enjoyed the hacker thoughts. I like the way you show that it is simply looking creatively at something, or through a different set of lenses. Lovely idea.
